Davenport 64, Unatego 49

Dan Toombs’ game-high 20 points led five Davenport players who scored at nine points as the Wildcats won a semifinal in the Anthony C. Drago Tournament on Tuesday at Oneonta High.

Davenport will play the host school at 8:15 p.m. Friday in the title game.

"Their size is a big factor for us," said Davenport coach Lee Fisher, who scouted the Yellowjackets’ 50-49 win over Seton Catholic Central on Tuesday. "I thought (OHS’ 6-foot-6 center Brendan) Harder really played well for them. He plays bigger than his size."

Joe Ballard scored 14 points, Matt Rap 11, Brandon Cuddy 10 and Travis Mole nine for the Wildcats, who led, 37-22, at halftime.

Davenport (1-0), which went 24-1 last season and advanced to Class D state semifinals, made 23 of its 50 shots from the floor. Toombs, who also had six steals, shot 7-for-15; Ballard was 5-for-10; and Rap 6-for-8.

"That’s big for Rap, because he’s taking the place of Brandon Butts," Fisher said of the injured Butts (broken right leg). "That was very big."

Owen Moss had 14 points and Joe Innes 12 for the Spartans (0-1), who play SCC in the consolation game at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
