Big third-quarter lifts UV girls

Theresa Lazarus scored eight of her team-high 14 points in the third quarter, when Unadilla Valley pulled way for a 58-45 Midstate Athletic Conference girls basketball victory over visiting Afton on Friday.

Lazarus hit two threes in the third quarter as UV extended a three-point halftime lead to 43-28.

Katrina Benson had 11 points and 16 rebounds, and Caree Acre hit three three-pointers for UV (3-2), which plays Hancock on Tuesday.

Jessica Winans scored 14 points for the Crimson Knights.

Chandler Prouty scored a game-high 14 points to lead visiting Milford in the Tri-Valley League.

The Patriots, who trailed, 27-19, at halftime, shot 4-for-20 from the foul line. Corinne Ketzlick contributed nine points for the Wildcats.

Laura Kroon grabbed 11 rebounds, and had six points and four steals for the Patriots (2-1).

Ten of Ashley Hayes’ game-high 15 points came in the third quarter, leading Worcester to a Tri-Valley League victory on the road.

Amanda McHargue hit a free throw with 10 second left to give the Wolverines (3-3, 1-1) a 31-28 lead and Edmeston did not get off a potential tying three-pointer.

Hayes also had eight rebounds.

Nichole McGuinness had six points and five rebounds for Edmeston (3-3, 1-1).
