Warriors wrestlers rally past Bulldogs

Walton’s Jimmy McDonald capped a come-from-behind victory with a pin at 130 pounds Tuesday, giving the Warriors a 34-31 Midstate Athletic Conference wrestling victory over host Delhi.

McDonald pinned J.J. Darling in 2 minutes, 43 seconds to close the match, which started with Shawn Neumann’s 21-8 major decision over Walton’s Nick Rutherford at 135 pounds. McDonald led, 8-1, before his decisive pin.

Dustin VanValkenburg (112) and Cody Reed (160) won by pin for Walton, as did James Card (189) for Delhi.

Josh Sandell and Justin Peek started Unadilla Valley’s home rout in the Midstate Athletic Conference with back-to-back pins at 189 and 215 pounds, respectively. Taylor Anderson (119) also won by pin for the Storm (4-0), who received a 6-1 decision from 2006 Section Four Division I champion Shane Wilcox at 135 pounds. Wilcox beat Tyler Rous.

The Redskins rallied from a 39-0 deficit by winning four of the last five bouts but fell well short of a home victory in the Center State Conference.

Herkimer jumped to the big lead with the help of five forfeits. Brock Bell scored Cooperstown’s first points with a pin at 152 pounds.

Robert Busse followed with a 6-0 decision at 160, and Josh White (171) and Aaron Bogart (215) contributed first-period pins for the Redskins (1-7). White improved to 10-0 this season with his pin of Steve Hartman in 1 minute, 50 seconds.
