Dan O’Brien scored a team-high 14 points, and unbeaten Oneonta High outscored the host Wildcats, 17-7, in the fourth quarter of a Southern Tier Athletic Conference game Tuesday.
Brendan Harder, Brandon Southard and Alex Mirabito each scored four points in the Yellowjackets’ fourth-quarter run as OHS built on its 40-37 lead after three quarters.
"We did a good job moving the ball," OHS Jerry Mackey said of his team’s play in the final period. "Earlier in the game, we were settling for first-look or chuck-and-duck threes, but we took better shots in the fourth quarter. We got some hit-ahead situations, too, because they were crashing the boards hard."
Andrew Tenace scored 11 points and Harder had eight for the Jackets, who are 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the STAC.
Mackey said the defense of Tenace, Harder and O’Brien on JC center Davow Newborn helped lead OHS’ fourth-quarter surge. Newborn, a 6-foot-5, 250-pound center, scored a game-high 19 points. Four of those came in the fourth quarter.
OHS plays host to Chenango Valley on Thursday.
