Afton rallies to Intersectional crown
Staff Report
Alyssa Prezorski finished with 20 kills, 15 digs, five blocks and three aces to lead host Afton to a 19-25, 25-21, 27-25, 25-22 victory over Section Three champion Faith Heritage in the Class D Intersectional Championship on Friday night.
Prezorski had seven kills and three blocks in the third game, when four-time defending Section Four champion Afton (18-1) took a 2-1 lead.
"That game gave us momentum," said Afton coach Nikki Page, whose team won the first intersectional title in her six years as coach. "They knew they had it won. They were confident."
Page said the Crimson Knights settled down after dropping the first game, but they had to battle from behind in each game thereafter.
"We regrouped and there was no quit in them," Page said. "I told them to breathe, settle down and keep playing. They had to just keep doing what they’ve been doing all year."
Sarah Gregory contributed 20 digs and four kills for Afton, which also got 12 digs and six assists from Casey Konz and 24 assists from Amanda Mesko.
"It’s very exciting to finally see the hard work these kids put in all year pay off," Page said. "They just are a great bunch of kids."
