UNYSCSA Championships
The Hartwick men’s swim team made a move in the standings Friday during the second day of the UNYSCSA Championships at Nottingham High School. The Empire 8 Championships are also being held in conjunction with the event.
Hartwick, the defending UNYSCSA and Empire 8 champion, moved up in the standings from sixth to second place after 13 events. The Hawks entered the day in fourth place in the Empire 8 standings and 165 points behind championship-leader Alfred. Heading into Saturday’s events, Hartwick moved up to second in the league standings and will head into Saturday’s events 113 points behind the Saxons for the overall lead.
Kevin Milkovich took second in the 400 individual medley in 4 minutes, 9.18 seconds. His time was a personal best and met the NCAA "B" standard for qualifying for the national championships. He also won the Empire 8 crown in the event.
Tomie Schoening finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (53.86), Payl Layton was fifth in the same event (54.29) and Brett Mann seventh (55.07).
Layton was also fourth in the 100 butterfly (52.57) and Gregg Ducey was fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.26).
Hartwick’s 200 medley relay was third and fifth in the 800 relay.
Alfred leads the 14-team meet with 844 points. Hartwick is second with 731.
