Bowling event surpasses $10,000

The 25th annual Pro/Am Invitational Bowling Tournament, which ran Feb. 14 at Holiday Lanes in Oneonta, brought in more than $10,000 in pledges to benefit the United Way of Delaware and Otsego counties.

Professional bowlers paired with amateurs to compete in eight eight-team divisions. The following is a list of combined scores (three games apiece) for each division winner. Amateurs are listed first.

Business/Professional I: Ralph Mitchell, Don Lander (1,086).

Public Safety: Tom DiMartin, Joe Trancho (1,033).

Business/Professional II: Amy Packard, Stan Smith (1,178).

Golfers: Jim Bazan, David Elliott (1,240).

Saloon: Jeremy Saunders, Kyle Breier (1,168).

Little League: Jim Benjamin, Justin Vitacco (1,246).

The event marked the beginning of the United Way’s 2007 fundraising campaign.

Youth sports registration set

The Laurens Youth Sports Association will hold registration for tee-ball, baseball and softball from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and March 27 at the Laurens Masonic Lodge.

Ages are 7-8 for tee-ball and 9-12 for baseball and softball. Registration costs $15. For more information, call Jonathan Powers at 607-643-2526.

Soccer Hall to announce Class of 2007

The National Soccer Hall of Fame will announce the results of the player election during a 10:30 a.m. media conference Tuesday at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Hall of Fame president George Brown will introduce the inductees. A total of 62 players appeared on this years ballot. A maximum of three can be elected. The vote total is expected to exceed last year’s record 123 ballots.

Votes are cast by nominated soccer media, Hall of Famers, past and present U.S. National Team coaches, MLS coaches, and select soccer administrators.

Induction 2007 is scheduled for Aug. 24-26 at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta. More details about Induction Weekend will be released in March.

Youth spring sports sign-ups set

Catskill Mountain Little League will hold its annual sign-ups for tee-ball, baseball and softball for youths ages 5-12 from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.

Registration is also set for 9-11 a.m. March 3 and from 7-9 p.m. March 5.

O-State to host festival Fridays

The Oneonta State women’s soccer team and Headwaters Soccer Club will hold the PowerAde Indoor/Outdoor soccer and swim festival on four more Fridays.

The festival, which started this past Friday, continues from 5-9 p.m. March 2, April 6, May 4 and May 11.

All activities for boys and girls in grades 1-6 will take place at the Chase Physical Education Building. In May, some activities will move to Astro Turf Field.

Participants should bring sneakers, swimsuits and snacks. Advance registration costs $15. Same-day registration costs $20.

OBGC to host AAU basketball tryouts

The Oneonta Boys and Girls Club will host AAU 14-and-under and 15-and-under boys basketball tryouts from 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 3. For more information, call Andy Gravelin at 607-432-1133.

Football clinic slated for March 10

A Section Four clinic for local football coaches is scheduled for March 10 at Johnson City High.

The clinic will run all morning and afternoon. Cost is $50 by March 2 or $60 at the door. Lunch will be included.

Basketball tourney set for March 17

The Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Booster Club will host its eighth annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament March 17 at G-MU Central.

Registration for the double-elimination tournament starts at 7:30 a.m. Competition begins at 9 a.m. Boys and girls teams (maximum of four players per team) will compete at the modified (grades 7-8), junior varsity (9-10) and varsity (11-12) levels. Cost is $40 per team.

All players younger than 18 must submit waiver forms signed by parents or guardians.

The event also will feature a free throw and three-point shooting contests.

Inductions set for March 24

The Basketball Coaches Association of New York, Inc. will hold a Hall of Fame Induction brunch ceremony for eight people at 11 a.m. March 24 at the Heritage Hall of the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Duke Invitational to run March 27-31

The eighth annual Duke Invitational Basketball Tournament will run March 27-31 at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

Boys and girls teams (maximum of 10 players per team) will compete in the 12-and-under, 13-15 and 16-18 age-groups. Cost is $100 per team. Proceeds will benefit the Boston Hospital Children’s Heart Foundation.

Registration forms are available at the OBGC office. Registration is first-come, first-served, and March 16 is the final day rosters and fees will be accepted.

Soccer club begins registration

The Cooperstown Soccer Club has started registration for its spring recreation league.

Forms have been distributed through local schools and also are available at Church and Scott and the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown. Youths in grades K-6 are eligible.

Baseball camp set for this weekend

Oneonta State will host a baseball camp from 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Alumni Field House.

Instructors from the Red Dragons baseball program will teach youths pitching, catching, baserunning, bunting, defense and hitting.

Cost is $35 per person and is open to players ages 13 to high-school seniors.

Outdoorsman show to run this weekend

The second annual Adirondack Outdoorsman Show will run from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Johnstown Moose Club, which is located at 109 South Comrie Avenue/Route 30A North in Johnstown.

The event will feature several special guests, including authors Spider Rybaak, Don Williams, Pete Schoonmacher and outdoors columnists Ron Kolodziej and Ed Noonan.

Cost is $4 for adults and $1 for youths ages 12 and younger.

Girls basketball tryouts start Sunday

The Catskill Mountain Girls Basketball Club will hold tryouts starting Sunday at Unatego Central.

Tryouts for girls ages 12-14 run from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, followed by girls ages 15-17 from 3-5 p.m. The schedule is the same for a second set of tryouts scheduled for March 4. Catskill Mountain will also have a tryout March 11, but the site and times are not set.

Registration starts 30 minutes before each tryout. A non-refundable tryout fee of $25 is required to cover AAU registration and expenses.

Catskill Mountain teams are expected to play in six weekend tournaments from April until June. Cost is $250 per player to participate this season.

Basketball tourney to be held in April

The upcoming April Ambush three-on-three double-elimination basketball tournament is accepting team registrations.

The event consists of 64 3-to-4 player teams. Cost is $125 per team, and all final four teams will win prizes.

The championship team receives a $1,000 cash prize, and the second-place will earn $500.

The Oneonta Youth Soccer Association is continuing registration for its spring recreational league.

Youths in grades K-2 who attend an Oneonta City school are eligible.

Registration forms are available at Sport Tech. Registration deadline is March 15.
