honor 1967
Red Sox on
Saturday
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will host a day-long salute to the 1967 Boston Red Sox on Saturday, featuring the appearances by former Red Sox players Jim Lonborg and Rico Petrocelli.
The two will participate in a book-signing and a special members-only Voices of the Game Series event.
A limited number of tickets remain for the Voices installment, which will start at 3 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for youths and must be purchased in advance by calling the Hall’s membership department at 607-547-0397. The event includes a photo session with Lonborg and Petrocelli, who will join baseball historian Curt Smith in the 3 p.m. discussion.
The former Red Sox players will sign copies of Petrocelli’s new book, "Rico Petrocelli’s Tales from the Impossible Dream Red Sox," at 10 a.m. Saturday. Lonborg and Petrocelli only will sign copies of Petrocelli’s book or the book "The 1967 Impossible Dream Red Sox: Pandemonium on the Field." Autographs are limited to three books per person. No photos or memorabilia will be permitted.
Two other events will round out the 1967 Red Sox 40th anniversary celebration Saturday. At noon, a two-hour author roundtable and fan forum will feature panelists and SABR members Ron Anderson, Maurice Bouchard, Dan Desrochers, Joanne Hulbert, David Laurila, Bill Nowlin and Saul Wisnia. They will discuss their book "The 1967 Impossible Dream Red Sox: Pandemonium on the Field," then sign copies at 2 p.m.
Following the Voices installment, series host Curt Smith sign his copies of his book about baseball broadcasters, "Voices of Summer," and his newest title, "The Voice: Mel Allen’s Untold Story."
Other Voices of the Game guests in 2007 will be Hall of Fame manager Earl Weaver (May 20), Ford C. Frick Award winner Harry Kalas (June 30) and Academy Award winning musician and composer Randy Newman (July 12).
