O-State women surge, become national power
It was as if the area wanted to branch out. That simply accomplishing things locally wasn't grand enough in 2003. So the Oneonta State women's soccer team, Oneonta High graduate Jon Connolly and Sidney graduate Michael Graham went national.

NEW BERLIN — Unadilla Valley's Tyler Lloyd needed a little more time Tuesday night. Lloyd scored a game-high 29 points, but Unadilla Valley's late comeback fell short in a 72-66 loss to Norwich in the championship of the Unadilla Valley Christmas Tournament.

Oneonta High's first loss this season came in resounding fashion Tuesday night, with the host school routing the Yellowjackets, 58-40, in the final of the Cortland Christmas Tournament.

Junior free safety Anthony Tomaino (Oneonta High) earned a spot on the Academic All-District Football Team on Monday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

STAMFORD — Milford didn't miss a beat in its first girls basketball game without Shannon Weir. Despite their star sidelined with a broken left ankle, the Wildcats remained undefeated with a 54-39 victory over Roxbury in the opening round of the Stamford Tournament.


Bobcats boys beat Forks; OHS, UV win
It took Bainbridge-Guilford's shooters one day to used to the Broome County Arena. Jamie Patten hit four three-pointers en route to a 33-point game and B-G shooters went 9-for-16 behind the arc Monday in 65-51 victory over Chenango Forks in a Region II semifinal of the STOP-DWI Holiday Classic.


Hartwick men fall in Florida
Freshman guard Ryan Exter scored a game-high 20 points on 8-for-15 shooting to lead Embry-Riddle University to a 79-56 victory over Hartwick College in the Land of Magic Classic Basketball Tournament on Monday in Daytona Beach, Fla.


OHS falls to host school in Saratoga Tournament
The last of Sarah Lombard's game-high 23 points came on inside basket with seven seconds left that proved decisive in Saratoga's 50-49 victory over Oneonta High in the Saratoga Tournament on Monday.


Hartwick women at home tonight
The Hartwick College women's basketball team will play host to Hunter College at 2 p.m. today. The Hawks (2-3) are coming off an 81-54 loss to Union College on Dec. 6. Hunter (6-1) beat William Patterson, 68-65, in its last game, on Dec. 13.

Another season has passed. There wasn't a lot of fanfare, and there was very little shouting. Actually, the results of this hunting season were very disappointing. I'm not sure what the DEC's report will be, but I think from everything I have seen and heard, the deer harvest was extremely low.
