John Leech is trading Unatego green for Oneonta State red next year. Leech, the reigning 130-pound state champion in Division II, chose the Red Dragons as his next stop for wrestling. "I think it's a good school and I think it's a good fit for me," said Leech, who finished his senior season 40-1 and is Unatego's all-time winningest wrestler.

Oneonta coach Mike Jester said he estimated Konstanty's in-the-park homer in the fifth inning to be about 380 feet to center field. Konstanty also had a three-run double in the second inning.

Brian Skaug scored on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the 12th inning to give Tri-City a 6-5 victory over the O-Tigers in front of a season-low 342 fans at Damaschke Field on Tuesday. The O-Tigers (1-4) begin a six-game road trip at 7 tonight against Staten Island. Oneonta plays the Yankees three times before starting a three-game series with Williamsport on Saturday.

ONEONTA — Closing time is becoming a problem for the Oneonta Tigers. Tri-City scored a run in the top of the ninth to give the ValleyCats a 5-4 victory over the O-Tigers in front of a season-low 358 fans Monday at Damaschke Field. "We didn't put guys away," Oneonta manager Mike Rojas said. "The bullpen didn't do their jobs tonight and didn't put guys away with two strikes."

Lyons kept Vermont off-balance with lively breaking pitches and a well-placed fastball to lead the O-Tigers to their first victory of the season, 8-5, in front of a season-high 2,183 fans Sunday at Damaschke Field.

ONEONTA — Oneonta Tigers manager Mike Rojas didn't show any fear during his first night on the job. Rojas sent Matt Williams home in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday, but Vermont catcher Luke Montz tagged him out just before his hands reached home plate. The result was a 3-2 season-opening loss to the Vermont Expos in front of 1,027 at Damaschke Field. "It was a great throw and one of those hops that just ate me up," Montz said.

CICERO — Sidney senior Amanda Haney finally caught 5-foot-8. With one jump left Saturday to clear a height that eluded her for nearly four years, Haney barely made it over 5-8 in the outdoor high jump for the first time. "I'll always remember this," said Haney, who earned her third title in the last four years at the Track and Field State Championships. "It's very special and it's a great note to end on."

Guerriere shines for Sidney

CICERO - Friday was a good day to be Katelyn Guerriere. Make that a very good day. Sidney sophomore Guerriere had the best distance in the Division II long jump trials and dominated the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles at the State Track and Field Championships. At 18 feet, 2 3/4 inches, Guerriere's top long jump was more than one foot better than her closest challenger.

With the bases loaded and none out, No. 8 batter Lance Renwick's grounder to short drove in Brandon Reed with the winning run as the throw home from Jon Walker pulled B-G catcher Nevin Laing off the plate.
